I created this mix to say hello or goodbye, goodnight or good morning, and envisioned a sunset, or sunrise as backdrop to to give you a picture. It’s not necessarily meant for the dance floor, but is consistent with 4/4 rhythm.  These days I’m into deep ethereal arpeggios and hypnotic techno, and letting tracks fully breathe.  I liked the idea of doing the live video for Excursions because I feel like DJ sets are best heard live, unedited, and unplanned.  Tune into my studio for 2 hours (at least) of solid deep, tech,  and house music from 7-9pm PT (8-10pm GMT).

Who, or what, were your early passions and influences?

My first exposure to Electronic music culture was in 2008.  Mat the Alien, Piranha Piranha, Skream, Neighbour, and Atomic Hooligan were some of the DJs i looked up to in the beginning. I listened to a lot of Fabriclive CDs back in 2008.  Then in 2010 it was Dubstep, Breaks and Deadmau5.  Ill also admit, I listened to a ton of Trance from those “Euphoria” CDs in the early 2000s.

Who, or what, inspires you today?

Steven Bodzin,  Nolah,  Adriatique,  Denis Sulta.  Mat the Alien,  Skream…

Ethics, hard work, authenticity.

Who do you look up to in your local scene? Who pushes you?

I look up to FNKSTLL [Sink Deep Records] from Victoria BC. Ive known this techno duo for quite some time, and have seen tireless dedication and growth in the past few years. Their productions have reached top notch level, and are spitting tunes out on the weekly. Their night in Victoria called Sink Deep is growing, and they bring bigger artists every time.  They’ve been a big inspiration to me in business and in music.

SLAB (Max Ulis and Ryan Wells) and Soul Hop (Soren Hodne and James Hennessy) are consistently bringing great artists from around the globe to play in intimate settings in Van City. It’s so good to be exposed to new live music on a regular basis.  Nothing but smiles when I’m at their events.
